Callum Wilson has sent Newcastle United fans a message on Instagram which could hint at what his future holds this summer.

Wilson made just his second start since 27th December at the weekend and ended up netting a brace which was enough to secure all three points for the Magpies and thus relegate their opponents Burnley, and the travelling Geordies will have been loving seeing Wilson back to his best.

The striker finished the campaign as Newcastle’s top scorer with eight league goals despite missing 21 matches this season through injury, but after failing to hit double figures and injuries hampering Wilson once again, it’s no surprise that a new striker is reportedly being lined up this summer, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin said to be a big target.

With a new striker potentially arriving in the summer, Wilson’s future may have been up for debate, but he doesn’t seem to think so after he said this on Instagram: “Thank you to all you Geordies for your amazing support this season, especially at times when the team really needed it. Can’t wait to see you all again already.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Interestingly, it had been claimed that the striker could be available in the summer, but his recent performances and this message suggest otherwise.

The striker has been a stellar signing for the Magpies, costing them just £20m in 2020 and managing to rack up an impressive record in front of goal with 20 goals in just 39 league starts, but his injury record will always be something that holds him back.

Wilson has not gone a full season without picking up an injury since the 2017/18 campaign, which shows why PIF and Eddie Howe will be keen to bring in a striker, be it Calvert-Lewin or a younger player in the form of Hugo Ekitike, but added competition for places up front could take Wilson’s game to the next level and see him stay injury-free.
