Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Newcastle United are the favourites to sign Dean Henderson ahead of the summer transfer window.

There have been reports that Newcastle have shown interest in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Henderson in the upcoming transfer window. The Magpies were in talks with Henderson over a move to the club in January, but the deal fell through.

Henderson has been seriously out of favour this season with Manchester United, he has made just three appearances in all competitions and zero of these have been in the Premier League.

With the reports of a transfer to Newcastle for Henderson, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the Magpies are the favourites in the race to sign him.

“It all depends on whether Manchester United decide to sell him or loan him out. I think if he becomes available for a loan, it’ll be more than just Newcastle United who would be interested in Dean Henderson, but right now you would say that Newcastle are favourites to get him,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Henderson, who was described as ‘insane’ by Sander Berge during his time at Sheffield United, made 26 appearances last term for Manchester United, whilst keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets, but he has disappointingly fallen out of favour under Ralph Rangnick with David de Gea emerging as number one.

Newcastle United’s current number one is Martin Dubravka and he has made 26 appearances in the league but Karl Darlow has also been thrown in the mix and has made eight appearances so the goalkeeper situation is currently up in the air at St James’s Park.

If Newcastle were to bring in a new goalkeeper then they would likely go straight in as the number one choice, so it would certainly fix the problem for Eddie Howe, and someone of Henderson’s calibre would be a great option for him after he has nearly made 50 appearances in the top flight of English football for Manchester United and Sheffield United.
