Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that there will be an indication of who Newcastle United want to sign in the attacking department over the next fortnight.

Newcastle have had a season of two halves after they were sitting firmly in the relegation zone before Christmas, as it took them until December to win their first game, compared to now where they sit 13th in the Premier League table.

Callum Wilson has been injured since December 27th against Manchester United, and despite not featuring at all this calendar year, apart from Sunday’s 20-minute cameo against Manchester City, he remains the club’s top scorer in the league with six goals.

With the lack of goals that the Magpies have scored this campaign, Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that Eddie Howe will be drawing up a shortlist of forwards that will be confirmed over the next few weeks.

“I think in the next fortnight, we can expect to understand their shortlist, if you like, on strikers. They’re drawing it up at the moment; they’ve got to the stage of the season where they can go to respective signings now and say, ‘Look, this is where we’ve got to in the space of four months, five months,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Due to Wilson’s lengthy absence, Howe opted to spend £25 million and bring in Chris Wood from Burnley to St James’s Park, but the New Zealand forward has failed to supply the goods after he has scored just twice in 16 Premier League appearances in a Magpies shirt.

Who would you prefer lead the line, Wood or Wilson?

Wood

Wood

Wilson

Wilson

With Wood only expected to be a short term replacement for Wilson, and the Saudi takeover at the club, it is expected that Newcastle will go all out for a proven goal scorer, so it is exciting times for the Newcastle faithful, to see who they end up with at the start of next season.
