Dean Jones has claimed on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel that Wilfried Zaha would be an upgrade on Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin.

It hasn’t been the most fruitless last few months for Saint-Maximin with his impact in front of goal drying up significantly compared to the first half of the season, he appeared to criticise his teammates for his lack of assists and was seemingly unwilling to track back and defend for Newcastle on Sunday.

Who would be better for Newcastle?

Zaha!

This has also been accompanied by reports suggesting that the Magpies could be willing to cash in on the French winger this summer if a good enough offer is received, which would allow Eddie Howe to make some serious upgrades with Crystal Palace’s Zaha reportedly on the club’s radar this summer.

Jones believes that if Newcastle were to sign Zaha this summer, it would be an upgrade on Saint-Maximin.

(36:19) “I believe that Zaha would be an upgrade [on Saint-Maximin] too, but would he see it as an upgrade on Crystal Palace, that would be the big question.”

TIF Thoughts on Zaha replacing Saint-Maximin…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The Ivory Coast international, who is valued at £36 million (as per Transfermarkt), would certainly bring more Premier League experience and a clinical nature in front of goal to the side, something that is lacking with Saint-Maximin who’s enjoying his best season in the final third with five goals, compared to Zaha who can boast 13 goals.

Zaha is still on the better side of 30-years old and with just over one year remaining on his contract, this could be the last chance Palace get to recoup some big money for their star winger, so if the Magpies came calling with an interesting offer, they could well be tempted to lose someone who’s served them so well.
