Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson isn’t getting carried away despite heavy claims suggesting that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Frenkie de Jong.

It has been a season to forget for United with attention quickly turning to preparations ahead of Erik ten Hag’s first campaign at Old Trafford.

The current Ajax coach has signed a deal through to 2025 to take over from Ralf Rangnick and it appears as if he is already making tracks to link up with one of his former players.

Will Donny van de Beek come good for Manchester United?

Yes

Yes

Emerging reports from Gerard Romero suggested that the Reds have a ‘95% chance’ of signing the Dutch central midfielder, who was coached by ten Hag in Amsterdam, before moving to Barcelona in 2019.

However, Thomlinson won’t believe it until he sees it, posting a blunt response to the rumours on Twitter: “Don’t get my hopes up.”

TIF Thoughts on De Jong to United…

Sold under the stewardship of the incoming boss for £65m the dynamic midfielder could be set for a sensational reunion in Manchester.

Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Lee Grant, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are all set to leave United upon the expiry of their current deals, and in an expected summer revamp at Old Trafford, de Jong could be the first of many major signings.

He has scored four goals and contributed with five assists so far this season but Romero’s report claims that Barca need to offload one of their main attractions in order to bring in new players making it a win-win for both parties and a superb acquisition as the Reds start their rebuild.
