Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United target Pau Torres would consider joining the Reds.

After a season to forget at Old Trafford attention is quickly turning to preparations ahead of Erik ten Hag’s first campaign at United.

The Dutch boss left his role at Ajax prematurely in order to focus on his new job such is the task at hand and rumours have been running rampant as to who the 52-year-old will look to sign.

Next season will mark a decade since the English giants’ last Premier League success and with a dismal neutral goal difference this season, ten Hag will certainly be looking at shoring up the defence and Romano has discussed potential recruitments in that area.

Speaking on his YouTube channel he said:

“Pau Torres is another player they mentioned. From what I’m told, Pau would be open for a Premier League move even to Manchester United.

“There is a release clause around 60 million euros. This summer Villarreal could be open to discuss with Manchester United but at the moment but at the moment we are not yet at a stage to say Pau Torres is close.”

TIF Thoughts on Torres and United…

The Red Devils finished with their lowest ever points total in the Premier League in the season just past which epitomised their fall from grace almost a decade on from Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell triumph.

The £45m-rated Torres would be a shoo-in at the heart of the United defence after another fine season at the Yellow Submarine.

Manchester United fans, do you remember how many points you picked up in seasons gone by? Let's find out, starting with 2020/21

He was an ever-present in the Unai Emery-led side that made it all the way to the Champions League semi-final defeating Bayern Munich and Juventus along the way and the 6 ft 2 centre-back also met United twice this season in the group stage of that competition.

It has not been said what figure it would take to lure the Spain international, who was hailed as ‘sensational’ by his national team boss Luis Enrique, but at 25 he is maturing exponentially and could be a great foundation for ten Hag to build on.
