TalkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara believes Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola should have won the Premier League Manager of the Season award instead of Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool’s Klopp was given the award after a successful season, with the Reds winning the FA Cup and League Cup, as well as finishing a close second to City in the Premier League. However, both of those finals were won on penalties and, ultimately, winning the league is a bigger achievement.
O’Hara is adamant Guardiola should have received the accolade instead of the German. Speaking on TalkSport, he said: “I don’t know how he deserves that. I think that’s unacceptable, and I think that just shows why Pep Guardiola gets the hump with the media when he goes on about ‘everyone loves Liverpool’.
“He’s won the Premier League. He’s finished top with 93 points, an unbelievable season. They’ve scored 99 goals. How has he not won Manager of the Year?”
TIF Thoughts on Guardiola and Klopp
While Klopp has done well to push City this close, Liverpool were expected to challenge the Citizens for the title this season. Given they ultimately failed to win it and with one of his awards on the night being given out for the Premier League alone, it is hard to see exactly what Klopp did to deserve such recognition as opposed to his counterparts.
Guardiola has complained about the positive coverage of Liverpool and clearly feels he and his side do not get the praise they deserve. As O’Hara says, this will do little to change the Spaniard’s perception, but he can at least console himself with the Premier League trophy.
