Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has hit out at Patrice Evra’s comments suggesting Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola does not like players with big personalities.
Guardiola is now in his sixth season with the Citizens and has enjoyed huge success during that time. He has won the Premier League title on three occasions, and lifted numerous domestic trophies, although he has been unable to take the Champions League back to the Etihad Stadium.
Former Manchester United player Evra has hit out at Guardiola, saying he does not like players with personality. Thomlinson clearly doesn’t agree, writing on Twitter, “Dear oh, dear. Patrice Evra… this is absolute total complete waffle.”
TIF Thoughts on Evra’s comments
Evra, to an extent, does highlight Guardiola’s peculiar relationship with players with strong personalities. The best example of this is Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the two famously fell out during the Swede’s time at Barcelona. Others, such as Yaya Toure, have also clashed with the Spaniard.
Do you agree with Evra?
Yes
No
The Champions League collapses would also support the argument that Guardiola teams lack character, but they have regularly held their nerve in the Premier League. Erling Haaland, who is set to move to City this summer, is hardly a wallflower, either. Evra is perhaps being slightly too harsh here.
Evra has been bashing Pep for years, Manchester City don’t want egotistical love themselves troublemakers like Ibrahimovic, more trouble than they’re worth. Yaya was butt hurt because he lost his undroppable status once Pep arrived. Has nothing to do with any inability to manage idiotic destructive disruptive players.
