Journalist Conor McGilligan has been left in disbelief after Jesse Marsch’s quotes ahead of a pivotal game with Brighton.

At the end of February, Leeds officials appointed the American head coach after a 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur that saw Marcelo Bielsa sacked and a fifth defeat in six games to leave Leeds just two points above the relegation zone.

Are you confident Leeds will stay up?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

However, the upturn in form from Burnley and Everton and one point from their last four games has left the Whites third from bottom on goal difference with just two fixtures to play.

The Yorkshire club host Brighton today at Elland Road in their final home game of the season and desperately need a win however, McGilligan has been left stunned by what the manager has said ahead of the fixture.

He retweeted a post with Marsch’s comments and wrote:

TIF Thoughts on Marsch and Leeds…

Gabriel Agbonlahor this week called out the head coach for his motivational tactics which includes quoting the inspirational Mother Teresa.

However, Marsch’s comments here certainly wouldn’t get you riled up for a relegation battle and on a day where three points are a must perhaps the 48-year-old is simply taking a bit of pressure off his players which isn’t the strangest thing to see a manager doing.

It’s do-or-die time for Leeds and they will know that only a win will give them a great shot of securing their safety at Brentford on the final day.
