Phil Hay has issued an intriguing argument as to why Leeds star Raphinha has suffered a drop in form.

Leeds found themselves closer to relegation after their 3-0 defeat against Chelsea on Wednesday night and amid injury problems and suspensions Brazilian star Raphinha found himself operating at right wing-back.

The player posted a 6.6 SofaScore rating which followed his and Leeds’ disappointing showings against Arsenal (6.0) and Manchester City (6.1).

Do you think Raphinha will stay at Leeds?

In fact, the 25-year-old has only rated 7.0 or over in just five of his 17 Premier League appearances since New Year’s Day and Hay, who acknowledged that the winger’s form had dipped before Jesse Marsch’s arrival in February, has put forth an interesting argument.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show he said:

(14:49) “I think with Raphinha, his form has been dwindling before he’s been playing at right-back and there was a period under Bielsa where it wasn’t going great.

“I wonder and this is only me surmising, but I wonder whether Raphinha just been asked to carry too much this season.

“You know, in the first half of the season, the goals were coming from him, assists were coming from him. Every time they needed a result or every time they needed a big performance, it seemed to be coming from Raphinha.

“You just cannot ask that over 38 games there are always going to be periods where players dip.”

TIF Thoughts on Raphinha and Leeds…

With their top-scorer (10) out of sorts, the Whites’ woes have been worsened in recent weeks but they will be hoping the £40.5m-rated forward can rediscover his early-season form.

Do you think Raphinha should play right-back?

The seven-capped international has scored just two league goals since Christmas but with two pivotal games to go, Raphinha has time to salvage the Yorkshire club’s season.

Why leeds should be relegated? From the very first half of the matches meaning 16 matches they played leeds should had keeper misllier replaced but now it is too late. Klasson should be in place at a time when misllier concede 11 goals within 3 matches. So this is why leeds failed to maintain their previous games after winning against norwich & wolves from that times onward leeds should have been put klaesson as goalkeeper. Now let us see if burnley lose 2 remaining matches while leeds must win both remaining matches then i should say thank you leeds utd team their supporters the ground staff the management and most of them their owner mr. Radzi & mr. Jesse
