Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel about how impressed he’s been with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold this campaign.

Liverpool missed out on the Premier League title on the final day of the season despite seeing their league rivals Manchester City go 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes to play, but that doesn’t mean it’s been a poor season, as the Reds could still end the campaign with three pieces of silverware.

Should Alexander-Arnold have won YPOTY?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Someone who appears to show no sign of slowing down in his progression and development is 23-year old Alexander-Arnold, who has managed to record double-digit assists for the third time out of the last four seasons – but that wasn’t enough to see him land the Young Player of the Year award, with that going to Phil Foden for a second successive year.

Thomlinson has been left in awe by the defender’s continued top performances for Liverpool.

He said: “We are talking about an era-defining talent in Trent Alexander-Arnold and a positional defining talent. I think Trent probably has been the Young Player of the Year.”

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

Since bursting onto the scene at Anfield and becoming a regular back in the 2018/19 season, Alexander-Arnold has continued to develop and grow every campaign, while also redefining the role of a right-back as a lot of the possession goes through him, he’s had the most touches in the side and the second-most assists.

His passing ability has specifically caught the eye of Alisson, who claimed he has ‘eyes on his back’.

After missing out on the Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards, Alexander-Arnold seemingly can’t do much more to pick up an individual honour considering how much he’s played on all four of Liverpool’s fronts this season when it comes to trying to do the quadruple.
