Journalist Graeme Bailey has dropped a very exciting claim on the Talking Transfers podcast about reported Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni.

After just being pipped to the Premier League title on the final day of the season and missing out by a point while seeing their quadruple hopes vanish, Liverpool look set to make more improvements ahead of next season, with Fabio Carvalho already signed up – and someone like Tchouameni has been heavily linked by Marca (via Sport Witness).

Tchouameni will not be a simple transfer to pull off, however, given that a whole load of clubs such as Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are all interested in signing the 22-year old Frenchman, who is already a regular for AS Monaco and the national team.

Liverpool aren’t messing about with Tchouameni, though, as Bailey revealed.

He said: “As we reported last month, Liverpool and Real Madrid both came in, both [are] talking to the agents and representatives. PSG are also in the mix as well, but we think they’re currently lagging behind.

“All the teams [interested] have agreed to pay what he wants – they’ve agreed to pay the fee to Monaco, which is around £60m.

Will Liverpool sign Tchouameni?

“Now, basically it’s up to the player. It’s between Liverpool and Real now, but Liverpool do fear that he’s Madrid-bound.”

TIF Thoughts on Tchouameni…

It will be quite a terrifying thought for many teams in the Premier League if Liverpool are able to bring Tchouameni to Anfield, as he would add to a midfield of Thiago, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott.

For someone aged just 22 to be a regular for a dominant country like France only shows how talented Tchouameni is, and the stats back that up, as he ranks in the top seven for progressive passes in Ligue 1 this season, so Liverpool may well have to push the boat out to land this special talent.
