Simon Jordan has questioned the ability of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, saying he is not as good as people make him out to be.

Schmeichel has now been with the Magpies since 2011, and he has been a hugely important part of the Foxes’ rise to Premier League champions and F.A Cup winners. He is even club captain now following the retirement of Wes Morgan.

Is Schmeichel one of the best goalkeepers in the league?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Jordan, though, is clearly not that impressed with the 80-time Denmark international. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said, “He is a good goalkeeper, but he’s a keeper for the cameras. I think he’s been hot and cold (this season), I really do. I think he’s been taken out of other clubs because he’s not as good as people think he is. He’s done a good job at Leicester, he’s a very good goalkeeper, but he’s not as good as people make him out to be.”

TIF Thoughts on Schmeichel

Across his career, he has averaged a save percentage ratio of 72.3%, a solid number, and has been involved in several underdog stories – he is also Denmark’s number one goalkeeper and played every game as they reached the Euro 2020 semi-finals last summer. His influence and leadership are also key to his ability and profile as a player and should not be ignored.

This has not been the 35-year-old’s best season, for sure, but that does not mean he is not a shot-stopper worthy of high recognition. He still finds himself having made the fourth most amount of saves in the Premier League, though he has conceded the second most amount of goals in the Premier League (FBref).
