Phil Hay has revealed the key position that Leeds United are certainly looking to upgrade on this summer.
After pulling off a very impressive away win on the final day of the season at Brentford, Leeds can now start to plan for a third successive season in the Premier League and afford Jesse Marsch a full transfer window and pre-season to mould the squad into his own after they spent years working with Marcelo Bielsa.
Do Leeds need to sign a striker?
Yes!
No!
One area of the pitch that Leeds have struggled with all season is the centre-forward spot, with Patrick Bamford – the club’s main senior striker heading into the campaign – picking up several injuries through the campaign and Daniel James being played through the middle for the most part.
Hay has spoken on The Phil Hay Show about how Leeds are looking to address this issue in the summer.
He said: “From what I’m told, there is at least one centre-forward in the Premier League that they’re looking at and I think they will do a centre-forward – I think they have to do a centre-forward.”
TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ striker situation…
Bamford managed to prove a lot of critics wrong at the start of last season, with people claiming he wasn’t good enough to lead the line, only to end up with 17 league strikes and an eventual England call-up, but if he can’t stay fit, Leeds will have to bolster their attacking department.
It will be pleasing to hear for Leeds fans from Hay that the club have already identified a player who knows the Premier League and is still in the division to help bolster their numbers in the centre-forward slot, as it shows they are likely looking to be practical with their incomings this summer.
