Journalist Conor McGilligan has expressed his concern that Leeds United could play Brenden Aaronson on the wing.
The American, who is set to join the Whites on 1st July, signed a five-year contract after a transfer was agreed with Red Bull Salzburg.
He is described as an attacking midfielder in the club’s official announcement, but McGilligan has feared he would end up playing on the wing – especially if Raphinha is sold this summer.
Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, the journalist explained his concerns, saying: “Obviously, Brenden Aaronson does play on the wing for the [United] States, so you are hoping that Leeds aren’t thinking that.
“Although, we do now know that Raphinha’s move to Barcelona has really completely broken down.”

TIF Thoughts on Brenden Aaronson and Leeds…
As McGilligan alludes to, it is great news for Leeds if Barcelona’s move for Raphinha does fall apart – which has been reported as a possibility.
While the club will obviously not want to lose such a highly rated player, it will also mean Aaronson isn’t forced to pick up that extra responsibility on the flank immediately.
The American can certainly play out wide, as on international duty, he has often popped up on either wing. Though, judging from his most recent season with Salzburg, he is best in a central attacking role.
It remains to be seen as to where Jesse Marsch will employ Aaronson in a Leeds shirt, but it is certainly clear that McGilligan wants him away from the wide areas, as it may indicate a succession plan for Raphinha’s possible departure.
