Pundit Danny Murphy has claimed that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would surely be of interest to Liverpool in the summer.

Leeds struggled this season, but a dramatic final day meant they managed to steer clear of relegation to the Championship by three points and remain in the Premier League. Following their survival, there was the announcement of Brenden Aaronson signing for the club from RB Salzburg last week.

Phillips has not been able to feature regularly for the Whites this season due to injury, but he was still linked with a move away from Elland Road in January. And that interest has continued, as Manchester City are the latest concerned in luring him away from Leeds in the summer.

Whilst writing in the Daily Mail (via MOT Leeds News), Murphy has claimed that Phillips would surely be someone Jürgen Klopp is interested in.

“I don’t know if either is affordable, but a young and hungry top English midfielder like Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips would surely be of interest if they became available, because they’d be able to come and learn off Henderson and be a useful part of the team for years,” Murphy said.

TIF Thoughts on Murphy’s comments…

Interestingly, it was reported back in March that a leading agency stated that they can get Kalvin Phillips a move to Liverpool should he want one, so it seems that a move wouldn’t be too far-fetched.

Phillips featured just 20 times in the Premier League this season, but produced some important performances towards the latter stages of the season – picking up a 7.2 and 7.3 rating (as per SofaScore) in his last two fixtures to help his side earn an important four points.

The 26-year-old has been named in the recent England squad, and after the rumours of him leaving Elland Road, it could be hard to see him remain at the club, especially with the calibre of some of the clubs interested.

However,  Jesse Marsch signing players like Aaronson will be good in terms of showing the England international the ambition of the club, and if they sign more highly rated players, it may persuade Phillips to stay if he has eyes on a move.
