Journalist David Anderson has claimed that he expects Kalvin Phillips to stay at Leeds after they remained in the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Leeds midfielder Phillips has been linked with a move away from the club ahead of the summer transfer window, with Premier League sides circling as they remain interested in his signature.

The Whites were looking like they were going to be relegated as they sat in the bottom three when their final match against Brentford kicked off, but with them securing a 2-1 victory and Burnley losing 2-1 against Newcastle United, Leeds survived at the Clarets’ expense.

Despite links of a move away from Leeds for Phillips, Anderson spoke to GiveMeSport and highlighted that he may be inclined to stay at the club after they confirmed their Premier League survival.

He said: “Now that Leeds have survived, I think he will stay and sign a new contract.

“If they had gone down, he would have left, and I think Raphinha, who has got the escape clause in his contract, would definitely be gone as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Anderson’s comments…

Phillips has had a mixed season for Leeds as he has missed chunks through injury before struggling to get back to the form of the previous campaign when he was the club’s top performer with an average player rating of 7.21, while this season, he had an average rating of just 6.85, as per SofaScore.

Despite his drop in form this term, he has shown enough last term and at EURO 2020 that he can perform to a high level, so there’s little doubt that Leeds will be keen on keeping him at Elland Road.

However, if a club higher up the table come in for him – perhaps a club playing in Europe – you wouldn’t blame the 26-year-old looking to take the next step in his career and questioning his future at Leeds, despite being a local lad.
