Leeds United’s judgement day got off to a tense start in the opening 45 minutes, being held 0-0 on their travels at Brentford, with results going their way elsewhere.

The Clarets were 1-0 down and Leeds thought they were ahead, only for Joe Gelhardt’s opener to be disallowed for offside. Frustrations grew for Jesse Marsch as the half went on, with a huge let off for the Whites late on in the opening 45 minutes.

Will Leeds avoid relegation?

No!

Liam Cooper made a huge error to allow Bryan Mbuemo in behind, but he put his shot wide of the post to give Leeds a lifeline before the break.

Marsch was fuming with the chance, with Phil Hay commenting on the reaction of the American: “CHANCE: Cooper error, Mbeumo gets in behind quickly and shoots just wide. Big chance, big let-off. Marsch sticks his foot through the water bottle cooler. 0-0 on 44 mins. #lufc.

TIF thoughts on Phil Hay’s comments…

You can see why Marsch reacted like he did given what is at stake for his side. The news will surely have filtered through from Turf Moor where as it stands, Leeds just have to avoid defeat to stay in the league. So to concede so late on in the first half it would have been disastrous.

But, Marsch will surely be delighted now as Leeds managed to secure all three points and Burnley lost, which ensures safety for the Whites.
