Pundit Steve Sidwell has dubbed Joe Gelhardt to have an incredible future after his cameo performances from the bench for Leeds United this season.

Joe Gelhardt has been involved with the first team for Leeds this season for the first time, and he has made 16 appearances in the Premier League but just two of those have been from the start. He has seen maybe more involvement than expected in the first-team after star striker Patrick Bamford has spent lengthy spells on the sideline through injury.

Leeds have struggled this season, they currently sit one place above the drop zone, but if Everton win their game in hand then Jesse Marsch’s side will slip into the bottom three.

After Gelhardt has featured 14 times off the bench for the Whites this season, Sidwell highlighted on Premier League Productions, via MOT Leeds News where he feels the youngster’s career is heading.

“If they’re not winning, he can come on as defenders’ worst nightmare off the bench. I think he’ll have an incredible future,” Sidwell said.

TIF Thoughts on Steve Sidwell’s comments…

Joe Gelhardt has impressed in his first season of senior football for Leeds United, he has the second-highest goal scoring frequency per minute (271), which is just 11 minutes per goal behind top scorer Raphinha.

After starting just twice, and managing to score a couple of goals, it may be deemed harsh that Gelhardt has not featured more regularly from the off in Bamford’s absence, as Daniel James has been the man leading the line, even though he is naturally a winger.

However, Gelhardt is just 19-years-old and if he featured heavily in a struggling Leeds side then that may have had an impact on his confidence. So, Marsch may look to bring in another forward in the summer, and send Gelhardt on loan where he can get more regular first-team minutes.
