Graeme Bailey has dropped an interesting update on Mohamed Salah’s contractual situation at Liverpool while speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast.
It has been very much an ongoing saga and situation at Liverpool involving Mohamed Salah and the club as they look to strike up a new deal for the Egyptian winger who, as it stands, will become a free agent next summer.
Will Salah get a new contract?
Yes!
No!
While the winger has recently confirmed in an interview that he would love to stay at Liverpool, no breakthrough has been made or appears close with both Salah’s agent and the club locked in tough negotiations for one of the best goal scorers in the Premier League.
Bailey is certainly not confident that a new deal will be on the horizon anytime soon.
“It really puts Salah out there by himself [if Mane signs a new deal first] on an island if he’s out there by himself demanding these fees and as we said, from our information FSG have said to him, if you think you’re worth £450,000 a week go and get it from whoever you think.”
TIF Thoughts on Salah’s contract situation…
It would appear to be madness if Liverpool don’t end up sorting out a new contract for Salah given how consistently great he’s been for them since joining back in 2017 with 155 goals in 251 appearances across all competitions.
However, it has to be admired that FSG are holding firm on their wage structure and not just bending over to meet Salah’s needs as that sets a great precedent for any new arrivals or current players wanting new contracts, that they have to be realistic, or they should go play for someone else.
