Chris Waugh has revealed on the latest episode of Pod on the Tyne which Newcastle United youngster could feature before the end of the season.

Eddie Howe is having to manoeuvre his side through the end of the season with quite a few injuries to players such as Fabian Schar, Joe Willock, Jonjo Shelvey, Ryan Fraser as well as Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson only recently returning to matchday squads.

Would you like to see Turner-Cooke feature?

Yes!

No!

No!

This has thus seen a few younger players that have impressed during training given the chance to travel with the Newcastle United first team with last Sunday’s squad for the trip to Manchester City including Jay Turner-Cooke.

Waugh believes that fans could see a lot more of Turner-Cooke before the season finishes.

(23:55) “What’s interesting is someone travelled with the team and trained with them and who Howe says could feature before the end of the season is Jay Turner-Cooke an 18-year-old midfielder Newcastle signed from Sunderland a couple of years ago.

He’s very highly rated, very technically astute and he could be in the matchday squad in the last couple of matches and could even feature a little bit, so that’s an exciting, just glimpse of the future of players who may be peeping through and trying to get a game.”

TIF Thoughts on Turner-Cooke…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Despite being just 18-years old, Turner-Cooke has been featuring mainly for the under 23s in Premier League 2 this season while also training regularly with the first team and in turn, impressing Eddie Howe enough that he was allowed to travel down to Man City last weekend with the squad.

Newcastle have had a very bad time of things in recent years when it comes to producing young talent that have made a lasting impression on the first team with Sean Longstaff now not able to get a good run of games, Paul Dummett hasn’t played consistently since the 2018/19 season, so the last big success was Andy Carroll who left after being a starter for just one and a half seasons.

So, if the Magpies can handle and manage Turner-Cooke well, they could have a midfielder for the future, if he’s already pushing for a spot in the matchday squad at 18-years of age.
