Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Here We Go podcast about the future of Arsenal’s Gabriel.

Arsenal have potentially surpassed a lot of people’s expectations as they’ve gone from finishing eighth last season and thus having no European football to now being in the prime spot to finish inside the top four ahead of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Should Gabriel be Arsenal's new captain?

Yes!

No!

The Gunners have had a very impressive season despite boasting the youngest average age squad in the Premier League with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith-Rowe and Gabriel all featuring regularly under Mikel Arteta.

It’s the latter who’s attracted interest in his services this summer, but Romano has provided Arsenal fans with a big update.

(20:35) “What I’m told is, of course, there is a lot of interest because there are not many left-footed centre backs and so this is why there are many clubs watching him but I’m told that for Gabriel Magalhaes the priority is to stay at Arsenal.

They don’t want to lose him, because he’s really important for the club and so I think it’s not going to be an easy negotiation for any club to sign Gabriel Magalhaes.”

TIF Thoughts on Gabriel’s future…

There is only one player within the Arsenal squad that has started more league games than Gabriel and that’s the ever-impressive Saka, so it’s obvious that Arteta trusts the Brazilian to marshal and organise the back four and that’s helped keep 13 clean sheets this season.

It’s not just the fact he’s usually always on the pitch that will be why Arteta has trusted him so much and won’t want to lose the centre back, but he knows his role and does it very well every time he crosses that white line racking up the second most tackles, most touches and has also progressed the ball forward the most showing how willing he is to get attacks moving.
