Journalist Dean Jones has labelled Everton’s reported efforts to bring James Tarkowski to the club as ‘bold’ – but backs the Toffees to avoid any regrets.
Everton left it late last season, but ultimately retained their Premier League status for the upcoming campaign and can plan for a season at the top table of English football once again.
Frank Lampard is already looking to bolster his squad for next season, with reports from the Telegraph claiming they are looking to beat Aston Villa to the signature of Tarkowski. The defender was relegated with Burnley and is out of contract in the summer.

Therefore, it could see him sign for Everton on a free transfer, saving money to strengthen the squad elsewhere as Lampard looks to push on in his first full season in charge.
Discussing the potential move from the Goodison Park outfit for the defender, Jones told GiveMeSport: “It sounds to me like Everton are blowing other sides out of the water in order to sign Tarkowski. They are offering about 20 grand a week more to him than anyone else is. That’s a bold move, but one that looks like it might pay off.”
TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…
It’s certainly a bold move to offer substantially more than the competition, but it just shows how much Lampard wants to bring the defender to Goodison Park for next season.

The fact he will likely be available on a free will allow the club to bump up the wage and signing bonuses as there is no transfer fee to lay down, so the deal could be a smart one for Everton, who have wasted over £500m under Farhad Moshiri.
And with Everton looking to avoid another season like the one just gone, this show of faith in Tarkowski could well be a deal that suits all parties.
