Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Everton manager Frank Lampard’s connections at Chelsea could help the Englishman bring in Premier League Young Player of the Year nominee Conor Gallagher.

Everton managed to secure their Premier League survival by the skin of their teeth under new manager Lampard, finishing 16th in the table, only four points above the drop after a horrific season that the club and fans will want to put behind them.

Despite having only won six of their 18 matches under the former Chelsea manager, the Toffees are looking to back Lampard in the summer transfer window, with recent rumours linking them to Chelsea star youngster Conor Gallagher who enjoyed his best season to date on loan at South London outfit Crystal Palace.

Lampard will look to use his contacts at his former club, where he made 648 appearances as a player, in order to tempt the 22-year-old England international, who has a £50m price tag, to Merseyside, according to O’Rourke.

He told GiveMeSport, “I’m sure Frank Lampard will be using all the contacts that he can in this transfer market to try and improve this Everton squad.

“Obviously, he has got his connection at Chelsea, so I’m sure that might help sway Armando Broja or Conor Gallagher, who will be well aware of Lampard from his time at Chelsea as a player as well as a manager.”

TIF thoughts on Everton signing Gallagher…

Signing a player of Gallagher’s talent would be a huge bonus for Everton, who have struggled with fitness in their midfield as Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andre Gomes, and Fabian Delph have all suffered injuries throughout the season.

The Chelsea loanee has impressed pundits (being called a leader by Ashley Cole) and fans alike this season with his eight goals and three assists this season while averaging 1.5 shots, 1.1 key passes, 1.3 dribbles, 1.1 crosses, and 1.3 long balls per game with 81.6% pass accuracy on 31.3 average passes per game. He also ranks in the 96th percentile for non-penalty goals, 92nd for dribbles completed, 93rd touches in the attacking penalty area, and 93rd for pressures per game with 24.71. (Fbref)

Everton needs to vastly improve their squad in order to push themselves up the table and avoid another possible relegation battle in Lampard’s first full season. They have been linked with selling key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison so bringing in someone with the energy and talent of Gallagher would be a huge bonus.
