Crystal Palace’s official Twitter account has confirmed the return of right-back Nathan Ferguson to training after posting pictures of the young man following a slew of injuries that has kept him out for the majority of the season.

The south London outfit have enjoyed a great maiden season under boss Patrick Vieira as they currently sit 13th in the Premier League table, only a measly three points off the top 10, with the possibility to finish as high as eighth if they win their remaining games and other results go in their favour.

Palace’s upturn in form has been down to a combination of a new style under Vieira as well as a number of signings which have positively impacted the side, such as Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Michael Olise and Conor Gallagher. However, one new signing has failed to make an impact due to several injuries plaguing his chances since his arrival at Selhurst Park.

That man is 21-year-old Ferguson, who arrived from Championship side West Bromwich Albion back in July 2020, but he has only made one Premier League appearance for the Eagles as well as two U23 appearances due to these injuries.

However, the images released by the club show the defender back in training with an enormous smile on his face, hopefully hinting he could be back before the season’s end.

TIF Thoughts on Ferguson’s return…

It has been an unlucky and sad time for Ferguson since he arrived, and an appearance before the end of the season would surely be adored by the player and fans alike. According to reports, he missed the entirety of the 2020/21 season through a hamstring issue and then missed another six months after rupturing his Achilles in training in May 2021.

However, despite the return to training, Ferguson and Palace fans will have to wait until the weekend to see a possible appearance as Vieira confirmed the right-back did not travel with the team to Merseyside for their game against Everton.

This means his next chance of starting or making a substitute appearance will have to wait until their last game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday.
