Injury expert and Sky Sports contributor Ben Dinnery has suggested that Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey could be fit for a return to action on Sunday.

The West Midlanders will face off against title-chasing Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and Bailey, who has been recovering from an ankle injury, may be in line to feature.

Do you think Leon Bailey will come good for Aston Villa?

The 24-year-old has endured a frustrating first campaign in England, having arrived at Villa for £25m from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

The latest setback came in Villa’s 2-0 win over Norwich City last month when the Jamaican international had to be substituted 40 minutes in after sustaining an ankle injury.

The winger took to Instagram a fortnight ago to suggest he would ‘be back very soon’, and Dinnery has hinted that we may not have seen the last of him this term – though suggested a comeback was still unlikely.

Speaking on the Premier FPL Injuries channel, he said: “Leon Bailey is probably the closest of any chance [to return] of those on the sidelines, who could recover from an ankle problem, but I would suggest it is a bit of a stretch.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailey…

Whether Bailey makes an early return or not, the £27m-rated sparkplug will be hoping for a more consistent campaign next season.

He sat out five of their first eight league fixtures before a thigh problem saw him ruled out for over two months between December and February, which has limited his playing time to just 754 minutes in the league with one goal and two assists to his name.

Just as Bailey began to show glimpses of the player who provided 64 goal contributions in 155 games at Leverkusen, the frontman was knocked back again, but he will be hoping to eventually nail down a starting berth in Steven Gerrard’s side, and hopefully that will start on the final day.
