Graeme Bailey has been speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast about which Premier League midfielder could join Aston Villa.

Steven Gerrard’s side ended up finishing a rather poor 14th in the Premier League this season despite boasting players such as Danny Ings, Philippe Coutinho, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez and Lucas Digne.

Therefore, it may not come as a surprise to see them having already secured two permanent signings ahead of the summer transfer window as Coutinho has joined after his initial loan spell and free agent Boubacar Kamara has also signed on the dotted line to become a player under Gerrard.

Despite Kamara arriving, Bailey claims that Brighton’s Yves Bissouma could soon join the Frenchman.

He said: “So I’m told this interest has stepped up even since Sunday, they’ve begun conversations with Brighton and with his people, they’re making it known they want him and this could accelerate quite quickly, this one.

Would Bissouma improve Villa?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“We think a fee of around £30m; Tottenham are interested, we’ve heard Arsenal, West Ham and I’m sure there are probably others, too. Bissouma is a wonderful player, I saw him the other week at Leeds and he dominated that game.”

TIF Thoughts on Bissouma to Villa…

It would be a very impressive early start to the summer for Villa if they could secure a midfield duo of Kamara, who has European experience and already played 170 first team games at the age of 22, and Bissouma – who’s been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Spurs in the past.

This could even be in addition to the potential signing of Rangers defender Calvin Bassey, who has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season at Ibrox – and links naturally been made between him and his former manager.

Bissouma has only one year left remaining on his contract at Brighton, so this would be the last opportunity for the Seagulls to get a decent amount of money for the midfielder who’s been with them since 2018 and previously been called ‘exceptional‘ by BBC presenter Gary Lineker.
