Journalist Gregg Evans has claimed that Aston Villa want to sign a left-back in the summer transfer market.
After finishing a somewhat disappointing 14th-place finish in the Premier League this season, the Villans will hope to improve upon that next term.
The easiest way to take action towards that in the coming months is to bolster the squad in the upcoming transfer window, of course.
With that in mind, The Athletic writer outlined one position that Steven Gerrard apparently wants to strengthen this summer.
Indeed, while speaking on the 1874 podcast about who the club will look to sign, Evans said: “Left-back, definitely. Yeah, they’re looking at bringing in another addition at left-back.”

TIF Thoughts on Aston Villa and the left-back role…
Seeing as the Villans went and spent £25m on signing Lucas Digne from Everton in January, some fans may be surprised to hear this latest news.
However, this move does not necessarily mean Digne’s spot in the team is in huge trouble – though it does probably suggest that Matt Targett will make his loan move to Newcastle United a permanent switch in the summer.
A recent report in the Northern Echo claimed that the Magpies have a clause in the defender’s loan deal that will enable them to complete a permanent switch for around £15m this summer. They added it would be a ‘major surprise’ if manager Eddie Howe did not decide to trigger it.
And so, it’s no shock that Gerrard may well want a new left-back in the summer after all.
