Football writer Gregg Evans has claimed that Ashley Young has yet to accept the contract offer made to him by Aston Villa.

Last June, the former England international made the switch from Serie A with Inter back to Premier League football. Initially, he re-joined Villa on a one-year contract, though it was reported that the club could potentially extend that for another season.

But while it seems as though the club want to trigger that extra 12 months, the player is not quite ready to commit his future to the Villans at this moment in time.

Would you give Ashley Young a new contract?

When speaking on the 1874 Podcast, Evans explained: “They’ve offered him a new deal, but he hasn’t agreed that yet. So we’re waiting to see whether he extends.”

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Young and Aston Villa…

In his time back with the club this season, Young hasn’t been a regular starter, but still made 24 league appearances – which isn’t bad considering his age.

And evidently, Steven Gerrard still feels as though the 36-year-old has something to offer next term, too. If Evans’ information is correct and that deal has been offered, the Villa boss must believe Young can play a role in his side in the future.

However, the veteran is clearly undecided about the next step of his career and may be looking for a move elsewhere in the coming months. It certainly looks as if the situation has a way to go before it is resolved.
