Arsenal have now made contact with the agent of the young left-back Aaron Hickey, but nothing has been agreed ahead of the summer.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel regarding the future of the Bologna youngster.

It has been reported by Italian media that the Gunners have already agreed a deal with the Serie A side over a potential move for the 19-year-old ahead of the summer.

Hickey has only spent two years in Italy having joined Bologna back in 2020 from Hearts in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £1.53m.

However, Romano has dismissed the reports, claiming there is no deal in place between the two clubs with initial contact only taking place with Hickey’s agent.

He said: “So for Aaron Hickey, at the moment they just had some contacts with his agent but nothing is done, I’m told, as of today [Monday].

“So maybe we need to wait and see what happens, but there are many clubs interested in Aaron Hickey. He’s doing very good with Bologna here in Serie A.

“So very interesting player, but at the moment, are just contacts with this agent and nothing agreed between Arsenal and Aaron Hickey.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It is certainly an area of the pitch in which we feel the Gunners need to be looking at in the summer given the struggles Nuno Tavares has had in his debut Premier League campaign.

And as for Kieran Tierney, despite his ability, it is impossible for a club to plan for a season with him at left-back because of his constant injury issues.

Therefore, we think Romano’s comments will delight a lot of Arsenal fans, with Hickey believed to be one of the hottest prospects in European football in his position.

However, there will naturally be a concern, given his age, as to whether he is able to slot straight into the XI, so having Tierney fit enough to return to action would be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta.
