Speaking on BBC Radio Newcastle, former Sunderland player Marco Gabbiadini has revealed which player he’d drop for Nathan Broadhead on Saturday.

After what can only be described as a very dramatic goal away to Sheffield Wednesday from Patrick Roberts, Sunderland will find themselves at Wembley once again and only have to beat Wycombe Wanderers to secure a place in the Championship after four consecutive seasons in League One.

Will Sunderland win on Saturday?

Yes!

No!

No!

The Black Cats had to overcome Wednesday in the play-off semi-final without star man Broadhead, who picked up a knock in the last game of the regular season, but Alex Neil has confirmed that the striker will be available for the match on Saturday.

Gabbiadini was asked who he would replace Broadhead with at Wembley, with the former Sunderland man making an interesting decision.

He said: “It’s a difficult one, because I think the way he has been doing it, he would probably be in place of Pritchard. I’m talking about where his position is in the field so that he can quickly become a two with Stewart.”

This current PL centre-back almost signed for Sunderland back in 2015.

The 24-year-old striker has been a revelation on Wearside this season since joining from Everton on loan last summer. He has managed to forge a great partnership with League One’s second-top scorer Ross Stewart, with the pair of them managing to rack up a combined total of 38 goals across all competitions.

While Neil and the Sunderland fans will likely be desperate to get Broadhead back into the starting lineup given his form this season and the threat he possesses, to drop Alex Pritchard – the man with the most assists this season and the experience of playing big games throughout his career – would be a very bold move and will likely take a lot of consideration.
