Nottingham Forest supporters will surely be furious with the referees after seeing an image appear from their most recent game.

The Championship outfit had the chance give their hopes of making the Premier League next season a huge boost earlier this week as they met Bournemouth.

Did Forest deserve a penalty for this passage of play?

Sadly for the away team, the Cherries won the game 1-0 and so the South Coast side claim the final automatic promotion spot and Steve Cooper’s men will have to go up through the play-offs.

In the end, the game was settled by a late Kieffer Moore strike, but Forest really should have had a penalty in the first half.

Indeed, when Sam Surridge was played through on goal, he seemed to be tripped by Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers. The flag went up for offside, though, meaning the penalty wasn’t awarded.

However, an image shared on Twitter by user @louorns (original image/footage from Sky Sports) seems to show Surridge was actually onside when receiving the ball.

TIF thoughts on Nottingham Forest…

Seeing as just one goal settle the affair, Forest fans will have every right to feel hard done by after seeing the image which seems to prove Surridge was behind the last Bournemouth defender.

Had the away team won that game, they would have gone level on points with the Cherries going into the final game of the Championship season – meaning either side could have yet secured automatic promotion.

But with the offside flag going up, that chance passed Forest by, as did the three points. If the club can’t get into the Premier League via the play-offs, there’s every chance fans will look back at this piece of officiating as a pivotal moment in the their campaign.
