Neil Mellor has hit out on social media as Huddersfield were denied a ‘blatant’ penalty against Luton.

The Terriers came away from Kenilworth road with a reasonable 1-1 draw to take into the home leg of their Championship play-off semi-final but it could have been even better for Carlos Corberan’s men.

Inside the opening 10 seconds, an electric start saw wing-back Harry Toffolo shoved in the back by James Bree but referee Robert Jones thought nothing off it and decided not to award an early penalty to the visitors.

The Sheffield-born Mellor felt the Yorkshire club should have been afforded an opportunity from 12 yards and expressed his frustration on Twitter saying:

‘First blatant pen decision not given in opening minute.’

TIF Thoughts on Huddersfield…

Danel Sinani put the visitors in front but they were pegged back in the second half and perhaps deservedly so given Luton’s strong showing and the tie is evenly poised heading to the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday evening.

If the Terriers don’t advance then they will no doubt revert to this contentious decision but they will have to forget about it.

Only the top two, both with 46 points, took more from their home games than Town (45) during the regular season while Luton won nine of their 23 away fixtures which is encouraging for Corberan’s side.
