Presenter Dan Lawless reacted with optimism as West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal made his return from injury this week.

The right-back had not played a minute of football since 13th February, but started for the Hammers this weekend as they fell to defeat at the hands of Brentford thanks to goals scored by Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney.

Despite that disappointing result, West Ham supporters will at least be glad to have Coufal back and playing ahead of the hugely important Europa League second-leg tie against Lyon later this week.

Lawless was certainly of that mindset, as he tweeted: “Coufal is back! That’s a huge boost for us, especially for the Europa League. Hopefully he’s fully healed and back to his best.”

TIF Thoughts on Vladimir Coufal and West Ham…

Coufal wasn’t fit enough to play a part in the first leg against Lyon – which ended 1-1 – though he did make the bench. Instead, Ryan Fredericks played at right-back for the Hammers.

Considering the Czech has over 2,000 minutes of football to his name this season and his deputy has just 655, it’s easy to see who is the first-choice pick for David Moyes between the two.

If West Ham want to put out their strongest team – and no doubt they will for such an important fixture – Coufal will surely be named as long as he is fit.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Lawless was so delighted that the 29-year-old has had the chance to get back on the field ahead of the upcoming Europa League tie.
