Journalist Conor McGilligan has claimed on Twitter that Kalvin Phillips will start at the weekend for Leeds United.

Kalvin Phillips have been out of action due to injury since the 5th of December but made a return to the pitch in Leeds’ most recent game against Southampton when he was introduced after 66 minutes. The Saints game also marked a return to action for club captain Liam Cooper.

With Phillips appearing from the bench in Leeds’ recent game, he may well be ready for a full 90 minutes this weekend when they face Watford away from home, having a week to get up to speed.

With Leeds perhaps still flirting with a relegation battle, they will be desperate to get their star midfielder back in the starting XI. And. after the England international commented on a viral video of Roy Hodgson, Connor McGilligan put two and two together on Twitter.

“Conformation KP is starting in my book,” McGilligan said.

Who was sent off in his first game as captain?

Kalvin Phillips has only been able to start 12 times this season for Leeds after he picked up an injury against Brentford in December. Phillips was playing on the back of an impressive summer away with England, so this could have been the season that he would look to push on and progress but his game time has been cut short.

Last campaign in the Premier League, Phillips was vital for Leeds, he had a passing accuracy of 85%, made an average of 2.6 tackles per game, and won over 50% of his total duel against opposition players, as per Sofascore.

Leeds currently sit two places above the drop zone on 30 points, and they have seemingly picked up good form at the right time under new manager Jesse Marsch. The Whites have not lost in three Premier League games, so if Phillips can come into the side and help continue this form, then Leeds should be able to ensure top-flight safety.
