Tottenham Hotspur have already taken into consideration in their summer budget of the money they will need to make Cristian Romero’s move permanent.

This is according to the reliable journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke who was speaking on the latest episode of The View From The Lane podcast to discuss the club’s summer plans.

Earlier in the week, Pitt-Brooke reported the north London club are targeting a new left-sided central defender in the summer with four main names identified already.

However, Spurs still need to part with a believed fee of £42.5m to seal the services of Romero on a permanent basis with the Argentine still currently playing on an initial loan deal.

With some big names claimed to be on Tottenham’s radar, Pitt-Brooke believes the £42.5m for Romero will have already been considered and put to one side so should not influence their ability to spend too much in the summer:

(24:00) “I would imagine that the Romero money is already budgeted. I think it’s just a sort of technicality that signing is going through this summer. I imagine that, I get the feeling that Tottenham feel as if he’s been bought already.”

Do Spurs need to upgrade Ben Davies?

TIF Thoughts on Pitt-Brooke’s comments…

This should come as great news to Spurs fans for a number of reasons. Firstly, although expected, it is apparent the Lilywhites have no intention of seeing Romero return to Atalanta at the end of the campaign.

And aside from the obvious, the notion of being able to secure Romero permanently without affecting their ability to spend relatively big on another centre-back is really encouraging.

Pierluigi Gollini even called the defender an ‘animal’ and it’s safe to say that he’s lived up to that name as Romero has been somewhat of a revelation at Spurs and if they are able to find a player of Romero’s quality to replace Ben Davies on the left of the three, then it would surely excite a lot around N17.
