Sunderland fans will be delighted to see the latest footage to emerge from the club’s social media accounts on Friday afternoon.

The Black Cats released a video on Twitter of 27-year-old centre-back, Jordan Willis, back in action at the Academy of Light in an individual training session, captioned: “On the road to recovery. Keep at it, @J2Willis!”

Willis has been out of action since early 2021 after rupturing a tendon in his patella against Shrewsbury Town which was then ruptured again later in the year resulting in such a lengthy absence.

However, after over one year out as a result of the injury, the 27-year-old was shown being put through his paces in various agility tests whilst the first-team trained in the background.

And the former Coventry City defender took to Instagram to comment on his recovery as he reposted the footage from the Sunderland account:

“Catch me outside… how bout dat! Early stages of working on the grass, feels good to be back out there,” said the centre-back.

TIF Thoughts on the footage…

We think this will certainly come as welcome news to both the Sunderland fans and Alex Neil given the 27-year-old was a mainstay in the starting XI before sustaining the injury last year.

Willis had made 35 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign and 15 appearances last season before picking up the serious injury in the early stages of the game against Shrewsbury (via Transfermarkt).

The only issue for Willis is Neil’s defence has been in sensational form of late with just one goal conceded in their last six league games, however, this should mean there is no reason to rush the 27-year-old back into action.
