Pundit Barry Ferguson has claimed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will ‘100%’ be given time by the Rangers board to prove that he is the man for the job.

Van Bronckhorst was brought into Ibrox as Steven Gerrard’s successor after the English boss left the club to take on a new challenge in the English Premier League with Aston Villa.

Rangers currently sit second in the SPFL and currently find themselves six points behind rivals Celtic after the Hoops came out on top in the Old Firm derby on Sunday. Rangers now have it all to do to retain their title as there are just six games left in the league.

Despite Rangers’ title defence hanging by a thread, Ferguson spoke on Go Radio and revealed a private conversation with Van Bronckhorst that convinced the Scot that he was the right man for the job.

He said: “He knows the club inside-out, I’ve seen that last week, I hadn’t seen him for a long time, spent a bit of time with him, and he totally convinced me that he is the right man for the job and he knows how big a summer it is, he knows where he needs to strengthen to make them better and I think the Rangers board will 100% give him that time to go and do that.”

TIF Thoughts on Barry Ferguson’s comments…

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has had just one transfer window to get players in the door, and if you compare this to Ange Postecoglou, who has had an extra window in the summer, he has brought in several players such as Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi who have had major impacts.

It will be clear to see halfway through next season whether the Dutch manager is the right man for the job after he has had a full summer transfer window to get the right players in the door for his system.
