Image for Rangers: Image emerges of potential VAR error in Europa League defeat

Rangers fans may be fuming as they wake up following the defeat in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final after seeing an image that has emerged on Twitter

The Gers return to Ibrox next Thursday with a one-goal deficit to overturn if they are to reach the final of the European competition.

However, an image has emerged from the winning goal on the night, which may suggest the VAR should have intervened and disallowed it for offside.

It was a stunning strike from Angelino, but a still image from the footage shows Andre Silva potentially blocking Allan McGregor’s line of vision whilst in an offside position.

The 26-year-old had failed to run back onside following the initial clearance of the corner and found himself stranded behind the Gers defence as the ball was cannoned goalward.

TIF Thoughts on the image…

The image certainly would suggest Silva is standing in an offside position when the former Manchester City ace made contact with the ball – and it does appear that he may be blocking McGregor’s sight.

So there does seem to be an argument to be had for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side to have potentially gone into the second leg with the scoreline still at 0-0.

Although some may feel hard done by, the tie is by no means over and everything is still to play for in the reverse leg on Thursday.
