Celtic’s returning star Kyogo Furuhashi was seen “receiving acclaim” before even touching the pitch while warming up during the Hoops’ game with St Johnstone, according to journalist John McGinley.

The Japanese forward has been out of action with a lengthy injury that has kept him sidelined since December, missing 26 games for the Glasgow-based team. His long-awaited return to action has elated fans as they wait for his introduction into the game.

Kyogo had been one of Celtic’s best players this season prior to the injury that kept him out for so long. In his first season in Scotland, he has racked up an impressive 16 goals and three assists in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt) and the £4.95m-rated forward has made the left-wing position his own since arriving.

The news of the fans’ celebration of his return during the game with St Johnstone came from journalist McGinley, who tweeted: “Kyogo already receiving acclaim from the crowd at Celtic Park simply for warming up.”

TIF Thoughts on Kyogo’s return…

Kyogo’s long-awaited return has come at the best time for Celtic as they try to extend their lead over second-placed Rangers in the Scottish Premiership. With the Scottish Cup semi-final and the run-in of the SPFL coming to a close, Kyogo’s comeback could give them a huge boost over their rivals.

During his absence, fellow Japanese forward Daizen Maeda has taken the majority of his minutes and while he has done a decent job, with six goals in all competitions prior to the weekend, they have missed Kyogo’s creation and finishing acumen that has led to his almost cult-hero status during his short career at the club.

We will see if the forward can make an instant impact in the St Johnstone game, but either way, he will be a welcome addition not only by the fans, but by his manager and teammates as the Hoops battle for their next title.
