Image for Rangers: Image emerges of Filip Helander after injury at the weekend

Rangers fans will be gutted by the latest image to emerge on Twitter of Filip Helander following their victory on the weekend.

The Swedish international was withdrawn after falling awkwardly during the game against St Mirren after just 45 minutes of action.

And an image has emerged of the defender walking towards the hospital on crutches with a protective boot on his right leg.

Helander has only made a handful of appearances this season, with the game on the weekend just his sixth showing in the Premiership this season (via Transfermarkt).

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 victory over St Mirren, however, the game was marred by the injuries to Helander and John Lundstram.

A busy week awaits the Glasgow side, with a huge Europa League second-leg clash against SC Braga on Thursday followed up by another Old Firm derby in the Scottish Cup.

TIF Thoughts on the image…

This will come to the frustration of all involved at Rangers with such a big game coming up in the Scottish Cup against their local rivals on Sunday. And with Alfredo Morelos recently being confirmed as out for the season, it really has gone from bad to worse for the Ibrox club.

Not only with the game against Celtic in mind, but it has been a difficult season for Helander, having only just returned to action after around five months on the sidelines through a knee injury.

If the image is anything to go by, it would suggest Helander could be in for another spell on the sidelines, with the protective boot and crutches not exactly offering much comfort for Van Bronckhorst nor the Rangers fans.
