Celtic journalist and podcaster Ryan Fitzsimons has shared his disbelief at Joe Hart’s omission from the Scottish PFA’s Team of the Year.

The league’s best XI was revealed on Tuesday as we approach the end of the season. Amongst the inclusions were five Celtic players – Cameron Carter-Vickers, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Jota and Kyogo Furuhashi. However, it was the absence of Hart that appeared to pique the interest of Fitzsimons.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Sorry for being a bit quiet today.

“Been writing out my 8-point letter of complaint to the PFA for Joe Hart being left out the team of the season.”

TIF Thoughts on Hart…

The goalkeeper selected for the XI was Craig Gordon. The former Scotland international has enjoyed a top campaign, appearing in all but one of Hearts’ matches in the Premiership and keeping 15 clean sheets in all competitions. Gordon also has the highest save percentage ratio in the top flight this term, having thwarted 78.7% of the shots he has faced.

In comparison, Hart’s number stands at 74.1%. That, of course, is also a respectable return, and he has conceded just 16 goals in the Scottish top flight, keeping 17 clean sheets. However, Gordon does play for a significantly inferior team – he has had to make almost three times as many stops as the former England international.

Who should be in the XI?

In this case, either Hart or Gordon could have been chosen, and it would be hard to argue with the decision. While Hart has had an impressive season, Gordon perhaps deserves his place in the XI.
