Journalist and presenter Jules Breach has shared footage of Jarrod Bowen’s audacious strike that hit the bar during West Ham United’s defeat in midweek, which shows just how close the Hammers were to salvaging a draw in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
West Ham fell to a cruel defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt last night at the London Stadium, which will be a major blow to their chances of progressing, although they’ll likely take heart from the way they performed away from home in the last round.
Will West Ham reach the Europa League final?
However, the Hammers could have been heading to Germany on level terms had in-form winger Bowen’s ridiculous overhead kick had crashed in off the bar instead of just bouncing back out, such are the fine margins in these sort of games.
Breach, who was covering the game for BT Sport, tweeted footage of Bowen’s effort from several unique angles courtesy of BT Sport’s ‘No Filter’ feature and the presenter accompanied the video with her view, saying: “Jarrod Bowen with a sensational effort in the 92nd minute for an equaliser. Imagine the absolute scenes had this gone in! Still all to play for next week Hammers.”
TIF Thoughts on Bowen’s miss…
It’s obvious to see from the video that Bowen was simply in shock and disbelief that his last-minute effort didn’t end up crossing the line via his clean strike or even rebounding off of Kevin Trapp in the Frankfurt goal.
Bowen has had a stunning season in front of goal for West Ham, scoring 15 goals and registering 11 assists, so it’s no surprise that he had the confidence to attempt such an outrageous strike and many may have thought it would have inevitably ended up crashing into the back of the net.
