ExWHUemployee has suggested West Ham United may be able to swoop for Nick Pope this summer if he gets relegated.

With only a small amount of games left this season, Burnley are in a spot of real bother. Troublingly, they are stuck in the relegation zone, three points from safety – and have just sacked manager Sean Dyche in a bid to turn around their fortunes.

One club that potentially will be hoping the Clarets do go down is West Ham. Indeed, if that is the case, they may be able to pick up Pope in the transfer market this summer.

While talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex explained how it could play out, highlighting the current uncertainty at West Ham regarding their own goalkeepers.

He said: “Do we go with Nick Pope? Someone we’ve been linked with before. If Burnley get relegated, then he might be available and want to keep his England chances alive.

“Obviously, he’s done brilliantly against West Ham numerous times, so there’s options out there, I don’t think a final decision has been made [on a goalkeeper].”

TIF Thoughts on Nick Pope and West Ham…

Interestingly, Declan Rice even described Pope as ‘one of the best in the world’ at saving shots when West Ham played against Burnley back in December.

As alluded to above, the goalkeeping positions could be up for grabs at West Ham this summer. Current No 1 Lukasz Fabianski has just turned 37, and at that age, his future isn’t certain – despite him looking likely to pick up a new contract.

Elsewhere, much doubt remains over Alphonse Areola, who is only on loan for the season and not guaranteed to sign for the club permanently.

With that in mind, if Burnley do go down, Pope could be a perfect candidate – and available at a cut-price, too. What’s more, if he wanted to impress David Moyes, he certainly did a good job of that last weekend as he put in a stellar performance against West Ham to hold them to a 1-1 draw.
