ExWHUemployee has revealed West Ham United still have a possible interest in signing defender Nikola Milenkovic.
Last summer, it seemed as though the Hammers had a real interest in signing the Fiorentina man, with Ex actually explaining that the deal was scuppered by issues relating to agents’ fees.
In the end, the club signed Kurt Zouma from Chelsea for a fee reported to be in the region of £30m. However, it sounds as if that hasn’t put an end to West Ham’s long-term interest, with Ex recently claiming that Milenkovic is someone that the club are still keeping tabs on.
Should West Ham sign Nikola Milenkovic in the summer?
Yes
No
Talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said: “Another player that we’re still showing an interest in is Milenkovic, who is a centre-back that we [had a] dilemma about signing over Zouma.
“But we decided to go with Zouma instead, and that was a great decision, I think.
“But Milenkovic is still someone that we’ve kept an interest in. We could make a move for him in the summer.”
TIF Thoughts on Nikola Milenkovic and West Ham…
Milenkovic’s former Partizan boss Ivan Tomic has praised the centre-back in the past, calling him a ‘beast’
Interestingly enough, Milenkovic has spoken about how he stayed with current club Fiorentina despite ‘very high offers from European clubs’ – which suggests there was plenty of interest in the defender.
Worryingly though, the context of that interview was that he had just signed a new contract earlier this season, so this may make any possible transfer more difficult for the Hammers.
Despite that, if David Moyes really is keen on making the move happen, he might be able to find the money. After all, the club didn’t spend anything in January and they could get an extra cash injection after reaching the latter stages of the Europa League.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the club look to reinforce the centre-back department this summer.
