Tottenham Hotspur could be set to lose both Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura in the summer transfer window.

This is according to the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who was speaking on the latest episode of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

Should Spurs look to sell both this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The journalist was speaking after Tottenham’s defeat on the weekend, which saw the two forwards come on from the bench late in the game, but they failed to provide any impact.

Bergwijn was the final substitute called upon by Antonio Conte with just two minutes remaining of the game against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Moura, again, failed to show any signs of providing a challenge to Dejan Kulusevski’s spot in the starting XI, with Gold awarding the Brazilian with a dismal 4/10 rating.

And with both wingers featuring mainly on the Spurs bench, Gold believes it is not beyond the realms of possibility to see both depart in this summer’s transfer window.

He said: “There was a couple of times he did classic Lucas, where he ran past maybe one person and just gave the ball straight to the opposition. I think Bergwijn sees that and he probably thinks, ‘What? What have I got to do to get on that pitch earlier?’

“Lucas isn’t proving why he deserves to come on. There’s a part of me that is starting to wonder whether both end up going in the summer. I’m starting to wonder that.

“If I’m Steven Bergwijn, I don’t stick around next season. I don’t. Because I’ve got, in Ajax – especially if they match the bid that Spurs want – Ajax are desperate to get Steven Bergwijn back to the Netherlands. He will start every single match for them. I could totally understand if he felt, ‘yeah, I want to go back and be truly loved at a club.'”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We absolutely agree with Gold. Lucas Moura has not had a major effect on the team at all this season, with just two goals in the Premier League, with the last coming back in December (via Transfermarkt).

As for Bergwijn, it is apparent he has no place in Conte’s plans, with a combined 22 minutes of action in the last six Premier League games.

And if a side such as Ajax are to come in for Bergwijn, it would offer Spurs the opportunity to generate some revenue and aim to find another gem as Kulusevski has proven to be.
