Tottenham Hotspur fans will have been left shocked to hear what Paul Merson has had to say about their club live on Sky Sports.

Spurs fans will have had to watch on last night as their north London rivals picked up a slightly surprising 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge, making the race for the top four even tighter as Tottenham now sit on the same number of points as Arsenal having played the same amount of games.

Will Spurs finish in the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Antonio Conte will likely take solace in the fact that a top-four finish is still in Spurs’ hands and they also have to play Arsenal at home in the coming weeks. However, their win last night will have only heaped more pressure on the players and the manager to deliver the top four.

Merson, who was on punditry duties for the game last night, spoke about Spurs and what their fans will be thinking after Arsenal’s win, and when asked if Tottenham will have been expecting that result, said: “100% not, every Tottenham fan, every Tottenham player – and don’t let anybody tell you they’re not watching. We all played the game, you’re watching, you’re going ‘right, well they won’t win there, so if they don’t win here’, and now they’re like, ‘wow’.”

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

While Merson is likely right that Spurs fans wouldn’t have expected Arsenal to go away to Chelsea and win so convincingly, especially after losing three games in a row, but they may be slightly surprised to see a former Arsenal man give so much time and thought into what Spurs fans are currently thinking.

Spurs have lost just once in their last six league matches, so for Merson to claim that fans will now be worried after that result may come as quite a shock, as Spurs have done very well at handling their own business while others such as Arsenal continued to drop points.
