Injury specialist Ben Dinnery has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur ace Matt Doherty will miss the remainder of the season after he sustained an injury.

Doherty was in fine form for Spurs before he picked up an MCL injury on Saturday against Aston Villa when he was on the receiving end of a Matty Cash tackle. Doherty had started the last seven games for Spurs in the Premier League, having started just twice in league proceedings prior to that run.

The news that Doherty will have to miss the remainder of the season will be a huge blow for Antonio Conte as his side looks to qualify for the Champions League ahead of next season.

After Doherty was forced off in the 21st minute due to injury, Dinnery highlighted the extent of his injury whilst talking on the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube channel.

He said: “We don’t know the full extent of the problem, but we’ve heard from Alasdair Gold – he’s suggested that we’re looking at a Grade Three rupture. Now, typically, that’s a 10-12 week timeline, some research indicates that it could be closer to maybe nine, nine and a half.”

TIF Thoughts on Ben Dinnery’s comments…

Doherty has come to life in recent weeks whilst playing for Spurs in the Premier League. He has an average player rating of 7.06 in the competition, as well as three assists and two goals in his last seven games and has an average passing accuracy of 84% in the league this season, as per SofaScore.

Spurs currently sit fourth in the league table, three points above rivals Arsenal with a better goal difference, but the Gunners do have a game in hand. With the Irishman’s impressive form recently, it will be a huge loss for Conte to lose him at such a crucial stage of the season.
