Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has revealed he is looking to bring in a number 10 in the summer transfer window.

The Italian’s transfer plans have been relayed by Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on his latest YouTube video following the north London club’s latest victory.

Quotes emerged before the game against Aston Villa on the weekend which suggested the 52-year-old was planning to bring in a new number 10 in the summer to relieve some of the pressure on Harry Kane.

The 28-year-old Spurs forward has been in stunning form of late having provided another two assists at the weekend to make it five assists in his last three games (via Transfermarkt).

However, Kane’s goals have slightly dried up despite Spurs finding the back of the net on 12 occasions across the last three league matches.

And it is apparent that despite Tottenham’s impressive form, Conte would like to see Kane get back to being the prolific goalscorer he has proven to be over the years.

Gold said: “Conte was talking in the week about he wants to bring in a playmaker, he wants to bring in a number 10. He wants Kane to, not purely focus on being a number nine – but more focus on that while also adding a little bit of the unpredictability of being able to come back.

“He actually says he’d like another number 10. Do you know what, I get that for the squad strength and competition, 100% understand that and I agree. But, I don’t want to break up that front three.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We find this really interesting given that a number 10 would not typically fit into the system Conte is playing currently with the Lilywhites.

The addition of Dejan Kulusevski has cemented the front three for Spurs and Conte has established the back three with wing-backs on either side.

Therefore, it would surely take a formation change from the Italian to squeeze the most out of a number 10.

But with Spurs now looking likely to qualify for at least the Europa League, extra games would offer Conte the opportunity to rotate, and having a number 10 to select off the bench could be extremely useful if a late goal is needed.
