Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has been busy working away during the international break. He’s been following the progress of his players that were lucky enough to represent their countries, with one player in particular catching his eye.

Defender Joe Rodon has become a bit of an outcast of late at Spurs, only making eight appearances in all competitions this season. He has had to largely rely on the cups to feature, only having the one Premier League outing all year.

Should Spurs sell Joe Rodon this summer?

He has been much more important to Wales, playing a key part in their win against Austria in their recent World Cup qualifier. His performance impressed Conte, with Alasdair Gold claiming the following on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast:

“Rob Page, the Wales boss, said that Conte had been watching the game and actually there’d been a conversation where he expressed how impressed he was with Joe Rodon’s performance, which is true.

“As Rob Page said, you know, he’s a very fit lad, but coming in off no minutes, really, for Spurs, to come in and do that in a big crunch World Cup qualifying game. And he absolutely bossed it at the back, he was superb against Austria.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Rodon was certainly impressive in the win against Austria. According to SofaScore’s ratings, he was the top-performing centre-back for Wales and their second-best player after Gareth Bale.

Do you know Spurs' former academy players? Which former Burnley player used to play for Spurs' academy?

He made a total of 17 clearances in the game, blocking three shots. He also won all of his aerial duels and only lost two ground duels, showing his dominance in the heart of Wales’ defence in a crucial match.

The fact he can perform like that with little game time is a good sign for Conte, who will know that he can call on him if needed, with the lack of game time not affecting his ability to perform.
